| DG Frank Rothermel, left, and PDG Robin Textor, "dean" of the DLA (back row, center) met with the 2011-2012 District Leadership Academy class and faculty August 13, 2011. |
DLA lessons are designed to develop knowledge and ideas beyond what would ordinarily be encountered in the club and to develop knowledge of resources so that participants will know where to go to develop additional Rotary knowledge and skills.
The course of training takes the form of an extension course consisting of seven correspondence lessons and a Summary Seminar held in May or June. An Orientation Seminar is held in late July or early August. All materials are provided by the district, so there is little cost to participants.
Criteria for Candidates
The candidate must:
- Have outstanding qualifications for Rotary leadership.
- Have served for a full term as president of a Rotary club when the course begins.
- Be willing, upon completion of the course, to serve in a district leadership position or on a district committee, and be physically and mentally capable of discharging leadership tasks to which he/she may be recruited. Every DLA graduate will be asked to serve in a district role.
- Be willing to devote the time and effort necessary to satisfactorily complete the course.
- All other things being equal, candidates will be selected to provide geographical diversity within the district from among the candidates nominated.
